About me

Benjamine Dejardin

I am a PhD candidate at DULBEA, the applied economics research center of the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB). My research focuses on labor economics, training programs, and how information treatments influence job-seekers’ choices. I use field experiments, causal inference, and discrete choice models to study reskilling decisions in a context of labor market mismatches. 📄 Click here to see my CV

🔍 Understanding Reskilling Decisions to Address Mismatch Unemployment with Alexia Delfino, Elisabeth Leduc, Raffaella Sadun, and Ilan Tojerow
This project examines how unemployed individuals decide whether to reskill into occupations facing labor shortages and how the design of training programs and employers’ characteristics influence these choices. In collaboration with the Public Employment Service of Wallonia, we conduct a large-scale discrete choice experiment, both online and in person, among jobseekers, combined with rich administrative data on their employment histories and training records. The study explores (i) jobseekers’ willingness to reskill relative to their occupational preferences, (ii) their behavioral responses to information about labor shortages, and (iii) the barriers to participation in vocational training programs.

🔍 Finding the Perfect Employment Fit: Mismatch Unemployment and Occupational Training Programs with Elisabeth Leduc and Ilan Tojerow
This project develops a data-driven recommendation tool for vocational training programs, leveraging historical data on past jobseekers’ training decisions based on their profile. Through a randomized evaluation, we aim to assess how personalized recommendations can encourage jobseekers to enroll in training programs and better understand their search behavior in choosing them.
